Calming the storm
Certain purposeful narrations in the new testament have been treated as the miracle records of Jesus in the old effort to promote his claims as son of god.
According to new testament Jesus calmed a furious storm: “Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.” (Matt. 8: 24-26) The furious storm came without a warning, which would mean that this storm was not seen by anyone far away coming towards their boat before it hit their boat. So this was a storm suddenly appearing from nowhere hitting their boat. Storm is defined as ‘a disturbance of the atmosphere marked by wind and usually by rain, snow, hail, sleet, or thunder and lightning’ by Merriam Webster’s. So the actual miracle in this story is Jesus’ sleep in the boat while there was heavy waves going over the boat and perhaps thunder and rain! At last the disciples had to go and wake him up saying, “Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" To this he replied "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Even when their boat was going to drown and they were coming close to a tragedy they had faith in Jesus. This is why they woke him up and said ‘Lord, save us’. On the part of Jesus when he woke up the very first thing he said was accusing them of their lack of faith. How can anyone sleep when a furious storm hit an open boat? Jesus pretended to sleep cause he knew that the disciples would come to him and then he could blame them of their lack of faith. If the storm were a natural one, then Jesus would only need to calm the wind. Because the waves are due to the wind and if the wind is calm then there wont be any need to rebuke the waves because waves would automatically calm down as soon as the wind is calm. But the bible says Jesus rebuked the winds and then the waves. This would mean that when Jesus rebuked the winds it calmed but the waves hadn’t. That would mean there were heavy waves hitting their boat even when there was no wind! But then Jesus rebuked the waves and it was completely calm says the bible. What a paradox and a mock on common sense!
