The ongoing epoch is noticed in the Sanskrit scriptures as Kaliyugam (age of anger). Its distinctive characteristic is a preponderant waning, but not disappearance, of a sense of righteousness from consciousness, and proportionate loss of mental health. February 13, 3102 b.c. is reckoned as the date when the epoch began. Kaliyugam is fourth and last of the particular phase of cyclical time of which it is a segment. (For detailed exposition by sage Markandeyan of the characteristic features of Kaliyugam, see Insight, ibid., pp.42-44: "On Dissolution of the Age of Lucifer.")
